Luís Miguel Cortes Martins regularly advises on strategic transactions and complex restructurings, particularly on projects in the finance, energy, infrastructure and telecommunications, media, agri-food, health and real estate sectors.
He also specializes in litigation, particularly in arbitration and civil litigation. He regularly acts as an arbitrator in civil and commercial litigation.
He founded and was managing partner of SLCM - Serra Lopes, Cortes Martins & Associados, a full-service law firm with over 60 years of activity that merged with Cuatrecasas in 2023. After the merger, Luís became senior partner of Cuatrecasas in Portugal and is a member of the firm’s global board of directors.
He is a member of the Portuguese Bar Association. He is also a member of Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA) and Associação Portuguesa de Arbitragem, where he has been chair of the Commercial Arbitration Practice Commission.
He holds various positions at some of Portugal’s largest companies.
He was an assistant lecturer at Universidade de Lisboa and Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and currently teaches classes on civil and commercial law, and arbitration as a guest lecturer at these universities.
He participates regularly as a speaker at conferences and symposiums, particularly on corporate and commercial law, and on arbitration.
