The Cuatrecasas office in Santiago celebrates its fifth anniversary with a firmly established line of work and the clear aim of further strengthening its leadership in the legal sector in Chile and Latin America. The Santiago office currently has 12 partners and a group of lawyers who cover the main practice areas: Corporate and M&A, Energy and Natural Resources, Finance, Free Competition, Labor and Employment, Litigation and Arbitration, and Tax.
Over these past five years, the Cuatrecasas Santiago team has followed a sound strategic plan, enabling it to actively participate in Chile’s legal market, significantly increase its client base, and position itself as a leading law firm in core practice areas. The office has participated in the advisory services for many transactions that have been recognized and endorsed by leading legal guides. In 2024, Mergermarket and TTR ranked it as the second firm in Chile for volume of M&A deals. Moreover, Latin Lawyer, in its 1Q and 2Q 2024 report, ranked it as the most active firm in the country.
In a complex and dynamic legal environment, Cuatrecasas has established itself and leveraged market opportunities, successfully targeting the best talent. Its investment in the training and development of its professionals and in continual technological innovation has been key to achieving its goals.
Cristián Conejero, managing partner of the Santiago office and head of the firm’s International Arbitration Practice, led the Cuatrecasas launch in Chile, and he was joined from the start by Litigation and Arbitration partners Gianfranco Lotito and Juan Manuel Rey. Subsequently, Roberto Guerrero joined as partner to lead the Corporate and M&A Practice, together with partners Alfonso Ugarte, Macarena Ravinet, Josefina Yávar and Tomás Kubick. The firm’s constant activity and consolidation in Chile enabled the arrival of new partners: in 2022, Rodrigo Stein, head of the Tax Practice; in 2023, Sebastián Leyton to lead Energy and Natural Resources; and in 2024, Francisca Levin in Antitrust and Competition, Raúl Fernández, head of Labor and Employment, and Michel Dibán, to strengthen the Corporate and M&A Practice. The Santiago office currently has an 85-strong workforce, including partners, lawyers and support staff.
Cristián Conejero stated, “We are tremendously proud of the results we have achieved in these first five years in Chile. In addition to having been able to build a strong and cohesive partnership between the partners and the rest of the firm, we have managed to consolidate an important client portfolio with a wide range of industries and sizes, including both domestic and foreign companies operating in Chile. We have also been highly successful in capturing the best talent, with a clear commitment to excellence, in return for a career where we assist them with continuous training, institutional cohesion and a strong focus on technological innovation. We have positioned ourselves not only as leaders in our key practices in Chile, but as a law firm with true regional scope and a level of specialty, depth and sophistication that allows us to provide a quite unique offer. We are now in a very good place, giving us an optimistic view of how we will continue to build the future of Cuatrecasas in Chile and Latin America.”
Cuatrecasas has great goals in Chile, supported by a strategic plan focused on attracting the best talent in all its practice areas, putting its clients even more at the center of its organization, and increasing investment in R&D and technical and legal development.
