Cuatrecasas leads discussion on innovation at 4YFN

Cuatrecasas has participated in Four Years From Now (4YFN), an event held within the Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2025, with its own area that has become a key meeting point for innovation thanks to a full agenda of talks and guided visits. Over the event’s four days, experts from the firm and external speakers shared their vision and experience in various sectors, attracting over 500 attendees and creating a significant impact on the business and technology community.

The congress started on Monday, March 3, with Sustainability in the future of the sports industry. Participating as speakers in this session were Elisabeth de Nadal, Cuatrecasas partner in the Business and Human Rights Practice and expert in sustainability; Aitor Jiménez, Innovation and New Business officer of Baskonia Alavés; and Estela Vilches, head of Innovation at Moeve. On the same day, the opportunities and challenges of energy regulation were explored by Juan Carlos Hernanz, Cuatrecasas partner specializing in public law; Emilio Martínez, Head of Entrepreneurship & Open Innovation at Enagás; and Ramón Gallart, head of Innovation at Estabanell. The regulatory and tax trends of the cryptoasset ecosystem were also analyzed by Cuatrecasas lawyers Miguel Sánchez and Íñigo Egea.

On Tuesday, March 4, there was an elevator pitch of legaltech projects, backed by Global Legal Tech Hub, and the Venture Capital Annual Report 2024 was presented by Darío Villena, from Venture Capital Archive; Iñaki Berenguer, from LifeX Venture; Laura Gavirina, from Outliers Ventures; and Bernat Ferrero, from Factorial. The opportunities and challenges in the fintech sector were also discussed by Cuatrecasas lawyers Albert Agustinoy and Miguel Sánchez; Elisenda Baldrís, head of Legal at SeQura; and Nils Sceery, director of CITI. Participating in the session on Alternative sources of financing for SME growth and innovation were Cuatrecasas Corporate and M&A partners, José Ramón Berecibar, Gerard Correig and Roger Freixes; with Unai Extremo, founder & CEO of Virtualware. The day’s events closed with Keys to negotiating term sheets, with Cuatrecasas lawyers Xavier Morera and Amador Rodríguez.

Wednesday, March 5, started with the visit to the firm’s area in the 4YFN forum by Rafael Fontana, senior partner of Cuatrecasas; Javier Fontcuberta, managing partner, and Luis Pérez de Ayala, vice chair. Javier Fontcuberta highlighted that “4YFN is a consolidated event and an international benchmark that we have always chosen to share our experiences and knowledge in various sectors. We will continue to work to lead change and transformation of the legal industry.”

One of the sessions of the day was focused on the ethical and employment challenges of technology, with a case study on neurochips at work, presented by lawyers Rubén Agote, Valentín García, Cristina Romariz and José Mª Martínez. In addition, the keys of the new AI regulatory framework were analyzed by Albert Agustinoy, and a presentation of how Cuatrecasas is applying generative artificial intelligence in its processes was given by Idoya Fernández, partner and director of the Knowledge and Innovation Group, and Elsa Gómez, IT manager.

Finally, on Thursday, March 6, Cuatrecasas ceded its space to Area 101 and Lab3040 to discuss innovation community models and the best practices of corporate innovation in Catalonia.
