At its Extraordinary Partners Meeting held today at its Madrid office, Cuatrecasas approved the appointment as new partners of the following lawyers: David Fernández de Retana (Litigation), Juan Sebastián Lombana (Litigation and Arbitration), Gabriel Morales (Litigation and Arbitration), Jaime Moya (Corporate and M&A), Miguel Muñoz (Tax Litigation), Ramiro Portocarrero (Litigation and Arbitration) and David-Isaac Tobía (Labor and Employment). The new partners will add value and operational capability to Cuatrecasas advising and help reinforce its leadership position in highly relevant areas of business law.

David Fernández de Retana | Litigation partner, Spain
He has over 20 years’ experience in litigation in corporate, civil and compliance areas, handling claims involving contractual law, corporate disputes, civil liability and inheritance law, as well as financial litigation proceedings and antitrust damages. He is a lecturer and academic expert at Universidad de Deusto, recognized by Best Lawyers as leading lawyer in insurance and litigation, restructuring and insolvency law.

Juan Sebastián Lombana | Litigation and Arbitration partner, Colombia

He is a lawyer with recognized expertise in highly complex litigations with over 18 years’ experience advising national and international companies in sectors including oil and gas, public services, and energy and infrastructure, representing them in national and international courts of law and arbitration. In addition to his outstanding legal career, he has an impressive academic career lecturing at leading Colombian universities.

Gabriel Morales | Litigation and Arbitration partner, Spain
He has vast, solid experience in civil and criminal court proceedings, judicial reviews and arbitration. He has been State counsel since 2001, advising and defending important institutions and public bodies. He has worked on state agreements and as a member of the advisory board of Aragón. Since 2022, he has led the in-house legal department of a leading financial entity.
 
Jaime Moya | Corporate and M&A partner, Colombia
He is an expert in commercial and corporate law, capital markets, corporate governance and competition law. He has 27 years’ experience advising national and international companies on merger and acquisition projects and on infrastructure investments. He has been a partner in well-known law firms, secretary general of Almacenes Éxito S.A., and legal vice president of the BCC. In addition to having been recognized throughout his career by several legal directories, he has also lectured at leading universities in Colombia.

Miguel Muñoz | Tax litigation, Spain
He is an expert in tax litigation and EU law, particularly in direct taxation and state aid, with over 23 years’ experience. State counsel on leave, he has been an agent before the CJEU and director of legal services at the NEC, among other important positions. He lectures and is a regular conference speaker and contributor for international publications.

Ramiro Portocarrero | Litigation and Arbitration partner,  Perú
He has over 20 years’ professional experience in national and international arbitration, advising private and public companies in the energy, construction and infrastructure sectors. He has successfully led defenses in numerous international arbitration proceedings under Peruvian, Colombian, Spanish and English law and, for the last 13 years, has been a partner at a well-known law firm. He is also a lecturer and has been recognized by Chambers and Partners Latam in Dispute resolution: Arbitration.

David-Isaac Tobía | Labor and Employment partner, Spain
He is a lawyer with three decades of recognized professional experience specializing in labor litigation, staff restructuring and labor relations. After his first period at Cuatrecasas (2001-2006), he was managing partner in the labor and employment practice at one of the Big Four in Spain until 2019, when he assumed the management of an important law firm in Barcelona. In addition to being a columnist and regular speaker, he is a lecturer and has been recognized for his work in several directories, including Chambers, Best Lawyers and The Legal 500.
