Cuatrecasas has advised MediaMarkt, the leading company in the Spanish consumer electronics distribution sector, on acquiring 17 stores from Worten in Spain. MediaMarkt will retain all 270 employees of the 17 Worten stores and subrogate the store premises.

This agreement will strengthen MediaMarkt’s presence in regions such as Catalonia (seven stores) and Andalusia (four stores) and allow the company to launch in cities like Marbella, Melilla and Zamora. The new stores are expected to start operating under the MediaMarkt brand in the first quarter of 2021, after approval by the Spanish Markets and Competition Commission.

The advisory team for this transaction was made up of our colleagues Kai Fischer, Javier Alós, Irene Moreno-Tapia, Carlos Alberto Ruiz, Rubén Agote and Gregor Erlebach.

When the transaction is completed, MediaMarkt will have 7,000 employees in Spain—all of whom are technologists—and 106 physical stores, increasing its commercial surface by 8% and strengthening its position as leader of the Spanish market.
