Javier Martínez specializes in commercial disputes and complex lawsuits. He focuses his practice on the insurance and reinsurance sector, representing the major insurance players in disputes over contractual and non-contractual liability, as well as in insurance coverage disputes, subrogation actions and complex mass claims.
In the contractual area, he advises on the interpretation and negotiation of insurance policies, as well as on risk underwriting, with a special focus on contingent legal risk and financial lines products (such as D&O, professional indemnity and cybersecurity).
He regularly advises on the analysis and execution of litigation funding transactions and specialty insurance policies, such as after the event (ATE), judgement preservation (JPI), capital protection (CPI) or adverse judgement insurance.
Before joining Cuatrecasas, he worked at other top-level national and international law firms. In 2023 he completed a legal secondment in a litigation investment fund.
He is an associate lecturer of Financial Markets Law (insurance market) at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He also lectures on Civil and Commercial Litigation and on Insurance Law in the Law Practice Master of UPF Barcelona School of Management.
He is a member of the Spanish Association of Expert Lawyers in Civil Liability and Insurance and the Spanish Association of Young Insurance Experts.
