Ignacio Buil is an expert in financing and debt-restructuring transactions (in and out of court) and in negotiating financing and refinancing agreements involving a wide range of capital structures, including LBO refinancing; and project, real estate and corporate finance.
He represents borrowers and lenders, and advises financial institutions, hedge funds and private equity funds on financing and refinancing transactions, and on distressed investment strategies (including loan-to-own and direct lending). He has also participated in several national and multijurisdictional financing transactions and in acquisitions of NPL portfolios.
Since 2017, he is managing partner of the Cuatrecasas London office. Previously, he worked as an associate in the New York office of a leading US law firm, where he represented debtors and creditors in chapter 11 reorganizations, including advising on 363 sales and debtor-in-possession financings.
He is a member of the Madrid Bar Association (2005) and the New York State Bar (2009).
He is an associate professor (profesor asociado) at Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
He is the author of several articles on legal aspects of financing transactions in international publications.
