On February 15, the Cuatrecasas
Madrid office provided the stage for the 2023 awards for best end-of-degree projects (EDPs) for graduates of Bachelor of Laws programs and dual degree programs with law from Universidad Carlos III Madrid (
UC3M).
Organized by the Cuatrecasas-UC3M Chair of
Corporate and
Finance Law, and
Tax and
International Arbitration Law, the initiative is aimed at encouraging students to engage in research, analysis and critical thinking, rewarding and acknowledging the most thorough and highest technical quality projects. The prize amounts are intended to complement the students’ educational and academic development.
The event was inaugurated by
Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, Cuatrecasas deputy senior partner, who was accompanied by Rosa Rodríguez, dean at the UC3M School of Social and Legal Sciences, and who also dedicated a few words to the attendees. Subsequently, Marta García Mandaloniz, commercial law associate lecturer at UC3M and
Rafael Mínguez Prieto, Cuatrecasas Finance partner handed out the prizes.
In her speech, Sáenz de Santamaría said: “At Cuatrecasas, we know that our primary asset is talent. These awards reward quality, the pursuit of excellence and critical analysis. These are skills that are highly valued in today's complex world for recognizing talent.” She added, “investing in talent and creating an environment that enables people to grow and constantly learn is at the heart of how we understand such an exciting practice as the legal profession.”
The winners are as follows:
First prize for best EDP of Bachelor of Laws programs: “Unfair competition in acts of imitation. Adidas vs Scalpers,” by Ángel Sánchez Martín
• Second prize for best EDP of Bachelor of Laws programs: “Analyzing the temporary solidarity tax on large fortunes,”’ by Analía Bianca Cozzarelli Muñoz de Baena
First prize for best EDP of dual degree programs with law: “Data power and market power. Relation between competition law and data protection law,” by Nina M. Polit Sobrino (Dual Degree in Law and Economics)
• Second prize for best EDP of dual degrees with law: shared by four projects: (i) “The taxpayer's position in Constitutional Court Judgment 182/2021: Analyzing the effects and other derived assumptions,” by Roller Monllao Pomares (Dual Degree in Law and Business Administration and Management); (ii) “The new Insolvency Act reform in perspective: the discharge of outstanding debt and good faith as an essential requirement for its concession,” by Mónica Ramos Fernández (Dual Degree in Law and Political Sciences); (iii) “Analyzing comparative law regarding the regulation of green bonds between the US and the EU,” by Marcos Antonio Torrecillas Rodríguez (Dual Degree in Law and Economics); and (iv) “Investor protection against misleading information on corporate sustainability: recommendations for the EU legal framework from the US,” by Blas Rivas Santos (Dual Degree in Law and Business Administration and Management).
