Ignacio Buil is an expert in financing and debt-restructuring transactions (in and out of court) and in negotiating financing and refinancing agreements involving a wide range of capital structures, including LBO refinancing; and project, real estate and corporate finance. He represents borrowers and lenders, and advises financial institutions, hedge funds and private equity funds on financing and refinancing transactions, and on distressed investment strategies (including loan-to-own and direct lending).
Ignacio worked for 10 years at the Cuatrecasas London office—during the last four years he was managing partner. He currently coordinates the firm’s Restructuring, Insolvency and Special Situations Practice from the Madrid office.
Previously, he worked as an associate lawyer at the New York office of a leading US law firm. He is a member of the Madrid Bar Association (2005) and the New York State Bar (2009).
He has a doctorate in law from Universidad Complutense de Madrid; he received summa cum laude honors by unanimous decision and a special distinction from the university's law faculty for his thesis “Relative contractual subordination and preventive restructuring frameworks.”
