Carlos Gortázar also advises on large estates and family businesses (including family-member shareholders, donations and wills), and on succession litigation (including forced heirship rights and judicial division of inheritance).

He advises national and international clients, real estate groups and businesses on all types of complex property agreements and transactions (including shopping and leisure centers), building works contracts and real estate guarantees. He also represents and defends clients in real estate and construction disputes.

He lectures in the Master in Basque Civil Law at Universidad del País Vasco and has also lectured in the Master in Real Estate Management organized by the Spanish Association of Developers and Constructors.

He has co-written the books El Protocolo Familiar: la experiencia de una década (Family Protocol: A Decade of Experience), Deusto, 2007; and El Buen Gobierno de las Empresas Familiares (Good Governance in Family Businesses), Thomson Aranzadi, 2005; and has written several articles on family business matters.
