Grupo Costa strengthens position in meat industry with acquisition of Cárnicas de la Litera

Cuatrecasas has advised Grupo Empresarial Costa on acquiring Cárnicas de la Litera S.L., a company that owns a slaughterhouse in San Esteban de Litera (Huesca) with a surface area of around 8,000 m2 and a capacity of 625 tons per day. The transaction will help the Costa Group to close its production circle and strengthen its leading position in the European meat market.

Present for 50 years in the agri-food industry, the Aragonese company Grupo Costa—through its meat holding company Costa Food Group—has become the third largest livestock producer in Europe, operating today in over 100 countries. Committed to the environment, it generates some 5,000 jobs and has an annual turnover of €2 billion. In addition to operating in the meat market—its main area of activity—it is also present in sectors such as the wine, automotive and hotel industries.
