Álvaro Bourkaib’s practice covers all the advisory, contractual, and litigation aspects related to intangible assets.
The insighful knowledge he has gained from drafting and negotiating highly sofisticated tech contracts, has also been of use in successful litigation involving tech assets.
Álvaro has a leading practice (Chambers, band 1) in copyright in the digital era, software, and the liability of online platforms. He also regularly represents clients in patent, trademark and design cases. Regarding new technologies, he heads the legal committee of Alastria, the Spanish leading blockchain association, and has advised on many regulatory, liability, and tech transfer cases related to artificial intelligence.
He provides multijurisdictional, multicultural and crossborder advice, and has worked for international firms.
He lectures in several masters and postgraduate programs on intellectual property and technology transfer at universities and higher education centers, including Universidad Pontificia Comillas-ICADE, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and IE Business School.
He regularly participates in international conferences on intellectual property and new technologies, and is the author of leading publications in these areas.
