Cuatrecasas expands its Lisbon tax area by bringing in a partner with 14 years’ experience in legal practice, Susana Estêvão Gonçalves. This will consolidate Cuatrecasas’s strategic position in this area, boosting its advisory capacity in financial and corporate taxation matters.

Susana Estêvão Gonçalves has extensive experience in national and international investment operations, transaction structuring, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganization, financial transactions, and real estate taxation. She has worked in two other law firms in Portugal, moving to Cuatrecasas from CMS Portugal, where she worked since 2019, after an 11-year career at Uría Menéndez-Proença de Carvalho.

This is the third addition to Cuatrecasas’s tax team this year after four internal promotions and the entry of three new trainees. The managing partner of Cuatrecasas in Portugal, Nuno Sá Carvalho, said, “The appointment of Susana Estêvão Gonçalves further boosts Cuatrecasas’s tax area in Portugal, which is a very important business area for our firm. This boost is perfectly aligned with the firm’s organic growth and its expansion as a result of incorporating SLCM, which, as of January, will lend weight to the tax team through the addition of acknowledged professionals.”

Pedro Vidal Matos, who became the coordinating partner of the firm’s tax area in January this year, highlights that “it is great to have Susana Estêvão Gonçalves in our team. This is another important milestone in the development of the firm’s tax area in Portugal and means that not only is there a future for our vision of legal practice, based on the high technical and human quality of our lawyers, but it can also attract the best talent.”

According to Susana Estêvão Gonçalves, “the excellence of Cuatrecasas’s legal practice is based on a strong culture of innovation and sustainability, which is essential to meet the challenges that our profession faces. That is why I am very excited to start working on this new professional project and am committed to helping further improve the excellent work being done in Portugal by the firm’s tax area.”

Susana Estêvão Gonçalves has a law degree from the Law School of Universidade de Lisboa and a post-graduate degree in taxation from the Law School of Universidade Católica Portuguesa. She has written several legal articles on tax matters that were published in Portugal and abroad.

Cuatrecasas currently has 4 partners, 1 consultant, 13 associates and 3 trainees in the tax area in the Lisbon and Porto offices. After SCLM is incorporated into Cuatrecasas in January, the tax team will have 5 partners, 2 consultants, 14 associates and 3 trainees.
