Miguel Pena Machete focuses his practice on providing preventive advice and defending clients in cases of violations of competition law. He also handles important M&A transactions in relation to regulatory aspects and regarding notifying the competition authority and the European Commission of concentrations.
He is an expert in sectoral regulation law, including licensing, compliance and litigation, particularly in the telecommunications, sports rights, health care, transport, energy and consumer goods sectors.
Regarding public law, he has advised both public and private entities on public procurement, the execution of public contracts and administrative procedures, and has advised many public companies on their activity and management. He also stands out for his experience representing public and private entities before the administrative courts, as well as in arbitration proceedings where he acts as arbitrator.
From 2001 to 2022, he worked at SLCM - Serra Lopes, Cortes Martins & Associados, a full-service law firm with over 60 years of activity that merged with Cuatrecasas in 2023.
He is a member of the Portuguese Bar Association. He is also a member of the Association of Portuguese Competition Lawyers (“CAPDC”), Anwalt.De, DIRO and DACH.
He was an assistant lecturer of legal-economic science at Universidade Católica de Lisboa (1992-1999) and Universidade Nova de Lisboa (1999-2002).
