Cuatrecasas consolidates its strategic position in the practice of criminal law by hiring lawyer José Bonilla as new partner at the Madrid office. He is expected to join the firm on January 1, 2023, which will strengthen its capability of advising on criminal liability of legal persons and on compliance programs, matters that have developed significantly in the last few years at national and international levels.

Bachelor of Laws by the Complutense University of Madrid, José Bonilla is a renowned criminal lawyer with vast professional experience. An excellent legal professional, he started his career over 25 years ago working at financial entities at institutional level and services and later specialized in white-collar crime, financial crime and tax crime, a practice in which he has almost 20 years of experience.

He is considered a reference criminal lawyer in Spain, always a guarantee of the best service in criminal proceedings, with a special focus on financial and securities matters, including fraud and money laundering, for major and multinational companies. José Bonilla has also worked for years in education as a lecturer at prestigious institutions such as Carlos III University, Complutense University, Autonomous University and IE, all of them in Madrid. Currently, he is teaching Criminal Law at the King Juan Carlos University and the UCM Legal Practice School.

Regarding his upcoming position at Cuatrecasas, José Bonilla remarks: “It means joining a professional excellence project to contribute all my experience at what I believe is my best professional and personal time.” And he adds: “In the last few years, I have seen the firm grow in size and recognition among clients and lawyers to become a leader in the Spanish market. I identify with the way they understand the practice of law, based on the principles of honesty, effort, loyalty and seeking excellence at the service of clients.”

“The criminal law team at Cuatrecasas is the most highly valued, both because of its size and the quality of the lawyers that make it up. Contributing to uphold its reputation is a major challenge that I am delighted to face,” he adds about the criminal law area that he will join as a lawyer.
