Cuatrecasas welcomes Diego Pol as a new partner of the Barcelona office Corporate Compliance Practice with a clear objective: to contribute his renowned professional experience to consolidating and developing a practice area that, in recent years, has become as an important growth driver for the firm. The appointment—ratified by the Extraordinary Partners Meeting held in Lisbon on April 20—reaffirms the firm’s commitment to corporate compliance, giving it a more cross-sectoral and international nature, and facilitating a proactive approach for clients.
Diego Pol has built a prestigious career as a specialist compliance lawyer, after having been one of the pioneers of this practice area in Spain. Throughout his career he has advised national and international clients and organizations on the prevention and management of legal risks and regulatory compliance, including anti-corruption regulations, export controls and international trade sanctions. Pol, who until now co-led the European Compliance Group at a major global law firm, has also provided in-depth advice on designing the compliance function and implementing irregularity management systems in all types of companies.
A Bachelor of Laws (valedictorian) from the University of Barcelona, and Juris Doctor (summa cum laude) from Nova Southeastern University (NSU Florida), Diego Pol is a member of the bar associations of Spain and the United States. He enjoys wide international recognition, as reflected by his inclusion in Chambers & Partners for the past eight years ago (Band 2) and by being the only lawyer in Spain included in the Who’s Who Legal global directory as an expert in international sanctions. He is also recognized by Best Lawyers. He has headed many internal audits and regularly provides training sessions for boards of directors and steering committees. In addition, he serves as secretary to several compliance committees and is a member of the Ethics Committee at ESADE Business & Law School.
“Cuatrecasas is the leading Spanish law firm in corporate compliance and working with such a large team of specialists will enable us to offer clients cross-sectoral and holistic advisory services, something that is increasingly important,” Diego Pol remarked on joining the firm.
Javier Fontcuberta, managing partner of the firm, is unequivocal about the new member: “With the valuable addition of Diego Pol to the team, Cuatrecasas has established itself as one of the leading law firms in compliance in Spain, and strengthens its capacity to advise on the most complex of cases, including international sanctions.”
Diego Pol will contribute significant added value to the Cuatrecasas Corporate Compliance Practice thanks to his great strategic vision, which will help to identify risks and adopt the appropriate compliance guidelines. With the firm’s new partner and the two associates who will join his team—Cristina Serrahima and Carmen Cases—the service capacity of the Barcelona office will be strengthened with a high level of specialization, enabling the firm to cover all markets.
