Cuatrecasas continues to move ahead with its firm intention to grow in Peru, with the maximum guarantees of quality and excellence in its legal services and always maintaining its clients as its main focus. This can be seen by the hiring of Carlos Monteza as a new
Public Law partner, approved by the Extraordinary Partners Meeting with a clear objective: to set up and develop the Public and Regulatory Law Practice at the
Lima office.
With over 18 years of experience, Carlos Monteza has extensive expertise in international administrative law and has built a solid career in which he has handled a wide range of cases. He developed the public law and infrastructure practice of a renowned law firm for over 11 years before setting up his own firm, which was rapidly positioned in the main legal rankings.
Carlos Monteza studied law at the University of Piura (Peru) and has a double master’s degree in Economic Analysis of Law, with his thesis on The Economic Analysis of European Case Law in Free Competition by Erasmus University Rotterdam (the Netherlands) and the University of Hamburg (Germany). He has lectured at universities in Peru for the past 14 years and has authored several academic articles on his specialty area. He has been recognized in international rankings such as Chambers & Partners, The Legal 500 and Leaders League in the Public Law, Administrative Litigation, Competition and Antitrust, Electricity, Media, Real Estate, Technology, and Telecoms categories between 2011 and 2023.
"I am very enthusiastic to join Cuatrecasas. We have set ourselves the target of developing the country’s leading public and regulatory law practice, a reflection of the firm’s positioning on the Iberian Peninsula and in other regions where it operates, and in line with the other practice areas that our office provides. I feel comfortable in Cuatrecasas because the team of professionals is excellent and the ethical commitment, the firm’s values and the passion for what they do are in step with my way of practicing the profession,” said Carlos Monteza.
Oscar Trelles, managing partner of the Cuatrecasas office in Lima, stated: “Since the start of the Lima office five years ago, we have hired top-level lawyers who are leaders in their practice areas, and Carlos Monteza is a clear example of this. With his addition, we consolidate our market leadership in Peru, particularly in advising local and international investors on their most important projects, for which advice and support for navigating the complex Peruvian regulations is crucial.”
The main aim of Carlos Monteza’s arrival is to enhance the firm’s offer of comprehensive services for its current and potential clients in Peru, thus continuing to compete in the legal market with a high-quality, sophisticated service. The incorporation of a work group that specializes in public and administrative law will also produce synergies with the other practice areas, which will be reflected in a highly specialized advisory service.
